Manufacturing details of the Spencer repeating rifle
by Scott Crawford - July 26, 2021
- The Spencer repeating rifle manufactured by the Repeating Rifle Company Burnside Rifle Co.
- Available from: 1860 to 1869
- Cartridges: .56-56 Spencer, .56-52, .56-50, and a wildcat .56-46,
- Notes: The Spencer repeating rifle was first adopted by the United States Navy, and later by the United States Army, and it was used during the American Civil War, where it was a popular weapon. The Confederates occasionally captured some of these weapons and ammunition, but, as they were unable to manufacture the cartridges because of their dire copper shortage, their utilization of the weapons was limited.
